Balkrishna Industries (BKT) will manufacture Pirelli-branded premium car tyres in India under an agreement announced on 22 October, targeting production of up to 800,000 tyres by 2030.

The initial phase will operate through an offtake agreement, with BKT producing the tyres at one of its newly constructed plants to Pirelli’s specified technology and quality standards.

Pirelli’s announcement sets out a second phase involving a proposed 50:50 joint venture, subject to certain conditions. This would include construction of a plant making high-value passenger-car tyres under both brands for India and international markets. press.pirelli.com

The two stages give the companies a route from contract production to a potential jointly owned manufacturing operation.

For Pirelli, which says its current Indian presence is commercial, the initial arrangement would provide local production through BKT. For BKT, the partnership supports its expansion into passenger-car tyres.

The proposed joint venture would extend that relationship to production under both companies’ brands. Its establishment and the planned plant remain conditional. press.pirelli.com
