Fourth plant certified: Joins Lousado (Portugal), Hefei (China), and Puchov (Slovakia).

Transparency focus: Ensures traceability of renewable and recycled materials.

Sustainability goals: Over 40% renewable/recycled materials in tyres by 2030.

Continental’s Push for Sustainable Innovation
The Korbach tyre plant has joined the ranks of Continental facilities certified under the globally recognised ISCC PLUS sustainability standard. This certification highlights Continental’s commitment to integrating renewable and recycled materials into its products while ensuring complete traceability along the supply chain.

A Path to 2050 Sustainability
Continental has set an ambitious goal to produce tyres from entirely sustainable materials by 2050. By 2030, the company aims for 40% of its tyres to be composed of renewable and recycled materials. Initiatives like the ISCC PLUS certification demonstrate their progress towards achieving these milestones.

Mass-Balance Approach Enhances Transparency
The certification is based on the mass-balance approach, which tracks and proportionally allocates the usage of renewable, recycled, and fossil materials across the supply chain. This method allows for the gradual increase of sustainable components in tyres.

Jorge Almeida, Head of Sustainability at Continental Tires, said, “We are consistently increasing the amount of renewable and recycled materials in our tyres. Certifications contribute to transparency.”

Innovations at Korbach
The Korbach plant also leads in other sustainability efforts. High-performance tyres, including those used in professional cycling events like the Tour de France, and motorcycle tyres such as the ContiRoadAttack 4, are produced here. The plant also manufactures hoses and features advanced technology like the High Performance Technology Center (HPTC).
