Hometyre Joins TyreSafe to Extend Local Tyre Safety Reach

Hometyre has become an official supporter of TyreSafe, adding its UK mobile tyre fitting network to the road safety charity’s growing base of industry and public-sector partners. The agreement will see Hometyre promote tyre maintenance messages through customer interactions, digital channels and potential community activity, extending safety communications beyond the traditional tyre depot.

Hometyre will support TyreSafe’s national campaigns and use educational materials from the charity across its customer communications, while its franchisees are expected to have opportunities to participate in local road safety initiatives and community events.

The partnership is particularly relevant because of the way Hometyre reaches motorists. The group operates a central booking, administration and support function, with fitting and associated services delivered by independently owned franchisees. That mobile model means technicians meet customers at homes, workplaces and other locations rather than relying on motorists visiting a conventional tyre centre.

TyreSafe said organisations involved in supplying, fitting and maintaining tyres have an opportunity to reinforce safety messages during customer interactions. Stuart Lovatt, Chair of TyreSafe, said the objective was to encourage motorists to think about tyre condition before a problem develops.

“For many motorists, replacing tyres is something they only think about when a problem arises,” Lovatt said. “By working together, we can help change that mindset, ensuring every interaction with a customer reinforces the importance of choosing the right tyres, fitting them professionally and continuing to check their condition, pressure and tread throughout their life.”

Hometyre said joining the organisation reflected its existing emphasis on tyre safety alongside the convenience of mobile fitting. The company plans to promote TyreSafe’s ACT message, which encourages motorists to check air pressure, condition and tread regularly.

Louise Cowlishaw, Director at Hometyre Group, said the partnership would give its franchise network opportunities to support national campaigns while becoming involved in local road safety initiatives, community events and educational activity across the UK.

“Together, we’ll be supporting national tyre safety campaigns, working with local communities and helping raise awareness of simple checks that could save lives,”.

Extending Safety Messages Beyond the Depot

For the tyre trade, the more interesting aspect of the agreement is not the supporter status itself but the additional consumer touchpoints it creates.

A mobile fitter typically encounters motorists in a different setting from a traditional retail depot. That provides an opportunity for tyre condition, pressure, puncture damage and tread advice to form part of the fitting interaction at the vehicle itself. Hometyre also intends to explore participation in community tyre checks, road safety campaigns and educational events through its franchise network.

The approach fits a broader emphasis within TyreSafe on using partnerships to increase the reach of tyre safety information. The charity now works with more than 250 organisations and has expanded its relationships across tyre businesses, police forces, local authorities and other road safety bodies.

That network has become increasingly relevant as tyre safety gains a more prominent place within the wider road safety discussion. As Tyre News Media reported from TyreSafe’s 20th Annual Briefing, the organisation is operating against the backdrop of the Government’s 2026 Road Safety Strategy and a renewed focus on casualty reduction.

TyreSafe says an average of 153 people were killed or seriously injured annually in incidents involving defective tyres over the five years covered by its current figures, while its 2023 tread-depth survey estimated that more than six million tyres in use in the UK had illegal tread.

Turning Support Into Activity

The commercial significance for Hometyre’s franchisees will depend on how far the partnership moves from communications into practical local activity. Community tyre checks and road safety events can put technicians directly in front of motorists before they have made a tyre purchasing decision, but their principal value as a TyreSafe initiative remains preventative education.

TyreSafe has increasingly used its supporter network in this way. Its 2025 annual review highlighted a partnership-led approach to extending safety campaigns, enforcement activity and educational resources, as covered in TyreSafe’s Partnerships in Action review.

Hometyre said it expects its franchise network to become involved in local road safety initiatives and will also use TyreSafe campaign materials across its website and social channels. October’s Tyre Safety Month provides an early opportunity to demonstrate how that support translates into activity.

The test of the partnership will therefore be less about displaying supporter branding and more about whether Hometyre’s mobile footprint can generate additional tyre checks, conversations and safety interventions among motorists who might otherwise have limited engagement with the tyre industry.

There is already an early test of how that local engagement will work in practice. Louise Cowlishaw, Director at Hometyre Group, said the company’s first event as a TyreSafe supporter is planned for 4 September at a college in Shropshire, where the focus will be on educating young drivers about tyre safety.

The event gives the partnership an immediate practical dimension. Rather than limiting Hometyre’s involvement to campaign materials and supporter branding, it will put tyre safety education directly in front of younger motorists, a model that could potentially be replicated through its franchise network as further local opportunities emerge.
