Kumho Tire has been recognised with two honours at the 2025 IDEA Design Awards for its Volume and Origami concept tyres.
The awards, presented by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), are considered one of the four major global design accolades celebrating creative achievements in design excellence.
The South Korean manufacturer received both awards in the Professional Concepts & Speculative Design category.
The Volume concept tyre is designed to adapt its structure and functionality based on speed and road conditions, delivering what Kumho describes as a sustainable and intelligent solution for evolving mobility demands.
Meanwhile, the Origami concept takes inspiration from traditional Japanese paper-folding art and is engineered to provide maximum mobility and efficiency in extraterrestrial environments.
Both designs emerged from Kumho's Technology Outsourcing programme, a collaborative R&D initiative focused on developing next-generation mobility tyres. The programme saw the manufacturer partner with industrial design studio BKID, which specialises in multidisciplinary work spanning high-tech, IT, craft and contemporary art.
Ed Cho, CEO of Kumho Tire U.S.A., said: "This recognition reinforces Kumho Tire's commitment to innovation and design and is a testament to our future-oriented design capabilities and technological excellence. It further reinforces Kumho's charge to deliver sustainable and responsible mobility solutions for the future."
