Linglong Tire has produced its first self-developed 59/80R63 all-steel radial off-the-road tyre at its Changchun plant on 18 October. The company framed the event as a milestone for its heavy-duty mining offer and manufacturing capability. The 63-inch specification serves ultra-class rigid dump trucks in open-pit operations, a niche supplied by only a handful of global manufacturers. The company said the tyre targets demanding haul cycles and heat management.
The 59/80R63 is among the largest OTR sizes deployed in surface mining. Comparable tyres list an overall diameter of about 4.03 metres and individual weights exceeding 4.5 tonnes, underscoring the technical bar for casing strength, bead integrity and thermal control in long, high-TKPH cycles.
The 63-inch class is specified on 220–400-tonne rigid haulers, where tyre performance governs payload, speed and availability. Joining this segment places Linglong alongside established producers with long-running 59/80R63 programmes and signals additional supply options for mine operators managing tyre-related downtime and cost.
In a 18 October social post, the company described the rollout at Changchun as a “significant milestone”, highlighting design for open-pit mining duty cycles. The post added that the tyre’s development and launch broaden Linglong’s heavy-duty portfolio.
Recent Tyre News coverage shows Linglong expanding global profile and capability, including its 50th-anniversary partner summit in London and continued OE and market development work. This giant OTR debut sits alongside broader manufacturing moves reported by Tyre News. See coverage of Linglong’s London distributor event and near-term investment plans in Africa for additional context.
The giant-tyre club has widened in recent years as more producers enter or scale 63-inch output, intensifying competition on availability and lifecycle cost for mines. Industry reporting has tracked new Chinese-made 63-inch introductions and exports into overseas markets, pointing to a broader supply base for fleet managers.
With tyres of this scale, site safety and maintenance protocols remain paramount. UK Health and Safety Executive guidance stresses competence in removal, replacement and inflation, reflecting the risks of stored energy and heavy assemblies. Mine operators also look to heat management, haul-road standards and pressure control to preserve casing life across harsh cycles.
