Linglong Tire has used the Intelligent Electric Vehicle Development High-Level Forum 2026 in Beijing to set out how it sees tyres changing as electric and intelligent vehicles develop. Vice President Feng Baochun told the April event that tyres are moving beyond traditional safety roles to become key components affecting vehicle efficiency, performance and mobility systems.
Feng spoke during the forum session, “New Stage, New Drivers, New Ecosystem – Market and Consumption”, where he addressed current changes in the tyre market. The forum was held at the China National Convention Center in Beijing on 11–12 April and focused on the intelligent, green and international development of new energy vehicles.
According to Linglong, Feng said the automotive sector is being reshaped by artificial intelligence, changing environmental demands and globalisation. He argued that tyres are increasingly affecting the wider performance of vehicles, rather than serving only as passive safety components.
Rolling resistance and EV performance
The company said its current development focus includes work on rolling resistance, sustainable materials and compound technologies. For electric vehicles, those areas are closely linked to range, energy efficiency, noise, load carrying and wear performance.
Feng said Linglong aims to move from being a conventional tyre manufacturer to a product and service provider for intelligent mobility. In practice, that means closer alignment with vehicle manufacturers on original equipment tyre requirements, including testing and validation programmes.
The comments build on Linglong’s wider push into original equipment and European development work. Tyre News previously reported that Linglong had expanded its global research and development footprint, with its Hanover operation supporting European testing across sites in Spain and Finland. The company has also secured OE status on Volkswagen’s third-generation Tiguan, supplying a 255/45 R19 ultra-high-performance tyre developed and tested in Europe.
That context matters because EV and intelligent vehicle platforms place different demands on tyre suppliers. Car makers increasingly require low rolling resistance, predictable handling, noise control and data-led validation before approving OE fitments.
Linglong’s message also reflects a broader tyre industry trend. Manufacturers are trying to link compound development, sustainability and vehicle integration more closely as electric and software-defined vehicles grow in importance.
