Ten technicians have reached the Top Technician 2025 semi-finals after months of online testing. The live round takes place at Delphi Academy in Warwick on 4 October, with five places available for the grand final. Organisers say the field is one of the strongest in the contest’s 23-year history, reflecting rising standards across the UK independent aftermarket.

The Top Awards team has confirmed the Top Technician 2025 semi-finalists. The semi-final will run as a day of timed, hands-on assessments at Delphi Academy. Only five competitors will advance to the final, which returns to the same venue.
“These semi-finalists must now prove themselves under pressure, combining lightning-fast diagnostic skills with deep technical knowledge and the kind of problem-solving ability that sets them apart from the crowd,” said Top Awards MD Ryan Fuller.
“Only five will make it through this next round, and they’ll return to Delphi Academy for the grand final, another day-long contest of advanced, hands-on challenges designed to push even the best to their limits.”
With a prize fund worth £40,000, the competition offers tools, training, and cash. It also provides recognition that can shape careers. Many technicians use the process to benchmark skills, identify gaps, and build professional networks.
Technician David Weston said: “This is my 13th year entering Top Technician, and it’s been a huge part of my journey. When I first started, I wasn’t really into personal development or training, but the competition pushed me to see what I knew and what I didn’t. It’s helped me grow, meet great people, and ultimately it was the stepping stone that took me to where I am today.”
Gary Birse of Motech Garage in Forfar, Scotland, said: “For me, it’s all about challenging myself and using the competition as a way to keep developing as a technician. The questions this year really made me think, and while I’m definitely nervous about the next stage, I’m excited too. It feels like a big step forward.”
Top Technician launched in 2002 and is widely regarded as a definitive test of diagnostic skill. The Top Awards also include Top Garage, launched in 2018, and the new Top Apprentice from 2025. Partners supporting the 2025 programme include Snap-on, Delphi, LKQ Euro Car Parts, TOPDON, JLM Lubricants, VARTA, Garage Hive, Garage Services Online, Mechanic Mindset, and Autotech Communications.
