Trelleborg Tires brought its VF (Very High Flexion) agricultural tyres to BASF’s Demo Day at Hurcott Farm, running live in-field trials on pressure optimisation for field and road. The sessions, hosted with Mark, Sue and Andrew Doble, focused on how correct inflation supports traction, reduces soil damage and extends tyre life—key factors for farm productivity and cost control.
VF tyres carry the same load at lower inflation than standard radials, spreading weight over a larger footprint to limit soil compaction and protect structure. That supports plant rooting and helps preserve long-term yields. UK guidance also links lower tyre pressures with better soil outcomes.
Craig Churstain, Sales Manager at Trelleborg Tires, led the in-field session comparing field and road pressures and their impact on grip, fuel use and tyre wear.
“Optimising tire pressure between field and road applications is one of the most effective, yet often overlooked, ways to boost farm efficiency,” said Churstain. “Lower pressure in the field means less soil compaction and healthier crops. On the road, it ensures better fuel efficiency and longer tire life. It’s about getting the most from every working hour.”
The demo also highlighted Trelleborg’s ProgressiveTraction® tread design, engineered for grip in soft conditions while maintaining stability and comfort on the road.
