Yokohama Pays Tribute to Motorsport Manager Simon Clarke

Yokohama has announced the death of Motorsport and Technical Manager Simon Clarke following a motorcycle collision on 12 July. Clarke spent more than three decades with the company and became a respected figure across its UK and European motorsport operations. His work also covered tyre development, technical assessment and industry standards.

More than three decades with Yokohama

Clarke joined Yokohama HPT in 1993 and remained with the business for more than 30 years.

During that period, he became closely involved in Yokohama’s domestic and international motorsport programmes. His knowledge was also regularly requested by the company’s global head office at major European racing events.

The role placed Clarke at the point where competition tyre performance, technical support and product development met. That experience made him a familiar figure within Yokohama and the wider motorsport community.

His contribution came during a long period of racing activity for the ADVAN brand.

Technical work beyond motorsport

Alongside his racing responsibilities, Clarke led tyre development programmes for UK vehicle manufacturers.

This work required close cooperation with vehicle engineers and a detailed understanding of tyre behaviour under different loads and operating conditions.

Clarke also served as chairman of the Motorsport UK Production Tyre Panel. The panel role reflected his standing in the sector and his knowledge of production-based competition tyres.

He additionally held a certified claims adjuster licence, extending his expertise into technical inspection and assessment.

His work connected motorsport development with the wider original equipment sector.

A respected colleague and friend

Yokohama described Clarke as a much-loved and respected colleague whose knowledge, commitment and enthusiasm made a lasting contribution.

The company said he was also a close friend to many people across its UK and international operations.

“Simon will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him,” Yokohama said.

Yokohama has extended its condolences to Clarke’s family, friends and colleagues.
