Bridgestone Hispania Manufacturing has announced plans to initiate a collective dismissal procedure at two of its Spanish tyre production facilities. The move will affect employees at the company’s Puente San Miguel plant in Cantabria and the Basauri plant in the Basque Country, both specialising in truck, bus and agricultural radial tyres.
According to the company, the decision has been prompted by major structural changes within the European tyre market, combined with sustained economic pressures. Bridgestone highlighted a significant downturn in the agricultural radial (AGR) and truck and bus radial (TBR) tyre sectors, driven by inflation, regulatory shifts and growing market uncertainty.
One of the key factors behind the decision is the increasing presence of non-European tyre manufacturers in the European market, which has intensified competition and contributed to a contraction in demand for locally manufactured AGR and TBR tyres.
In a statement, Bridgestone Hispania Manufacturing confirmed it has now formally notified employee representatives of its intention to begin the dismissal process, which is part of a broader effort to restructure production capacity and improve long-term competitiveness.
The company acknowledged the potential impact on employees and said it is committed to managing the process transparently and responsibly. Bridgestone stated that it will maintain open dialogue with employee representatives throughout, in line with the company’s values of integrity and social responsibility.
Bridgestone has not yet confirmed the number of jobs likely to be affected by the restructure.
