Giuseppe La Iacona Takes Yokohama Europe South Europe Role

Yokohama Europe has appointed Giuseppe La Iacona to three senior roles, including leadership of a newly created South Europe Cluster bringing greater coordination between its Italian and French operations. The appointment also gives La Iacona responsibility for international customers across Yokohama’s European subsidiaries.

La Iacona joined Yokohama Europe on 15 September and reports directly to European CEO Takashi Maki. He becomes General Manager South Europe, CEO of Yokohama Italia and Head of International Customers.

The regional role is the most notable organisational element of the appointment. Yokohama said its newly established South Europe Cluster is intended to strengthen coordination and synergies between its operations in Italy and France.

As CEO of Yokohama Italia, La Iacona will also have overall responsibility for the Italian subsidiary. His international-customer remit extends more widely across Europe, with responsibility for coordinating and supporting subsidiaries that manage customers operating in multiple markets. Yokohama said the role is intended to support a more consistent commercial approach and greater collaboration between countries.

The company has not said whether creation of the South Europe Cluster changes existing reporting lines or responsibilities within France and Italy, or whether functions such as sales operations, marketing, pricing or logistics will be managed differently. It has also given no indication that similar multi-country clusters are planned elsewhere in Europe.

La Iacona brings more than 20 years of tyre-industry experience across sales, marketing, business development, country management and international customer management. Yokohama's announcement does not name his previous employer, although Tyrepress reports that he joins after 24 years with Pirelli.

The changes come during a period of expansion and management change for Yokohama in Europe. Maki became CEO of Yokohama Europe on 1 June, when the company said it had strengthened its local presence and organisational integration in the region over the previous three years. Yokohama subsequently said in August that its European turnover had tripled during a period of what it described as substantial regional expansion.

La Iacona's appointment therefore adds a defined cross-border structure to that European organisation, while stopping short of indicating a broader move away from Yokohama's existing country operations.
