JK Tyre & Industries Ltd. has launched the UX Royale Green, India’s first passenger car tyre manufactured with 80% sustainable materials and certified under the ISCC Plus framework. Produced at the company’s Chennai plant, the tyre reflects a decade-long investment in sustainable R&D and material innovation.
The UX Royale Green tyre is certified under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) Plus scheme, a globally recognised standard that ensures traceability of sustainable and recycled raw materials. The certification underlines JK Tyre’s adherence to responsible sourcing and circular production practices.
The UX Royale Green integrates a mix of renewable, recycled and bio-based components:
▪ Bio-attributed polymers
▪ Renewable oils
▪ Recycled rubber powder
▪ Recovered carbon black
▪ Recycled polyester
▪ Recycled steel wire
These materials have been selected to reduce environmental impact without sacrificing tyre performance or durability. Each component is certified to confirm its sustainable origin and compliance with circularity targets.
The tyre is the outcome of more than ten years of research by JK Tyre’s Global Tech Centre. The development programme, which began in 2013 and culminated in August 2023, was focused on identifying scalable, environmentally responsible alternatives to petroleum-based inputs while maintaining safety and performance benchmarks for road users.
The launch of the UX Royale Green positions JK Tyre among a growing number of manufacturers developing certified sustainable tyres. While several global brands have introduced sustainable prototypes, JK Tyre is among the first in Asia to bring a mass-production ISCC Plus-certified passenger tyre to market. This move could influence supply chain and material sourcing decisions across the wider Indian automotive sector.
As demand grows for environmentally responsible solutions in the automotive sector, JK Tyre’s UX Royale Green signals progress in aligning Indian tyre manufacturing with global sustainability benchmarks. The ISCC Plus certification sets a precedent for future passenger and commercial tyre developments, particularly as OEMs and fleet operators prioritise certified low-impact components in their procurement decisions.
