Westlake Brings Gen II Truck Tyre Range Together at IAA 2026

Westlake has used IAA Transportation 2026 to bring four Gen II commercial tyres together as an orderable European offer, spanning steer, drive and trailer applications. The display advances a rollout already under way since 2024, while a claimed Class A rolling-resistance rating for WSL2 and WDL2+ remains difficult to reconcile with the brand’s current European product information.

Westlake presented the WSL2 steer tyre, WDL2+ drive tyre, WTL2 wide-base trailer tyre and WTR PRO trailer tyre at IAA Transportation in Hannover alongside Interpneu and Pneuhage Fleet Solution.

All four were available to order during the show, giving Westlake a broader steer, drive and trailer proposition for European commercial fleets. The WSL2, WDL2+ and WTL2 form its Long Run range for long-haul applications, while the WTR PRO is positioned around high-mileage trailer use.

The presentation is better understood as another stage in Westlake’s Gen II rollout than as the launch of four entirely new products.

Westlake introduced the WSL2 and original WDL2 at IAA Transportation 2024. The WSL2 and updated WDL2+ were subsequently shown at The Tire Cologne in June this year, where the WTL2 was still being presented as an upcoming truck tyre development. The WTR PRO then made its UK debut at Road Transport Expo in July.

IAA therefore brings products introduced at different points into a more complete, orderable European commercial range.

Class A Claim Still Needs Size-Level Detail

Westlake says the WSL2 and WDL2+ now achieve EU Tyre Label Class A for rolling resistance, potentially making the rating one of the more significant technical developments in the range.

The currently available European product information does not yet make clear which fitments carry that rating.

Westlake’s European WSL2 page lists its 315/60R22.5 fitment as B for fuel efficiency. Its current WDL2 page lists both 295/60R22.5 and 315/60R22.5 versions as B. The latter is not necessarily a like-for-like comparison because Westlake is now promoting the WDL2+, but the company’s current European product listings do not identify the Class A WDL2+ fitments.

Pneuhage also described the WSL2 and WDL2 as B-rated for fuel efficiency in its own pre-show IAA communication, while identifying the WTR2 trailer tyre as A-rated.

None of this establishes that Westlake’s latest Class A claim is incorrect. Newly homologated sizes or revised specifications may not yet be reflected in the published European material. However, confirmation of the relevant sizes and their EU label or EPREL records would be needed to establish precisely which products have moved to the higher rating.

Westlake says development of the Long Run and PRO ranges is focused on fuel efficiency, mileage and operating costs for fleets. The WTR PRO uses a wider tread, higher pattern saturation and wear-resistant compound as part of its mileage proposition, although no independent fleet mileage figures were included with the IAA announcement.

For European dealers and fleets, the immediate development is that the four Gen II products are now being marketed together as an available steer, drive and trailer offer. The precise extent of the claimed Class A rolling-resistance improvement remains the main technical point requiring clarification.
