The Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR) has launched its Assurance System following consultations and member votes concluded in late July 2025. The framework introduces risk-based oversight, independent verification and disclosure to address deforestation, biodiversity loss and labour and human rights risks across the natural rubber supply chain. The Singapore-based platform says the system is now moving from design to implementation with tools to help companies comply.
The GPSNR Assurance System gives companies a structured path to:
A defining feature is risk-based assurance: the depth of checks scales with the severity of risks in a sourcing region or operation. That means tighter scrutiny where deforestation or labour abuses are more likely, and lighter touch where risks are demonstrably lower—aiming to deploy resources where they matter most.
Companies will be assessed by independent bodies, then report publicly against defined disclosure schedules. GPSNR has published guidance and tools to support member implementation. The launch follows earlier member approval of the system’s architecture in 2024 and two rounds of public consultation in 2025.
“This is more than a milestone for GPSNR. It is a pivotal moment for the entire natural rubber industry,” said Stefano Savi, CEO of GPSNR. “With our organizational design finalized and both Shared Investment and Risk-Based Assurance in place, we’re ready to move into implementation. I look forward to the impact this will have on smallholder livelihoods, the environment, and supply chain resilience.”
The GPSNR Assurance System arrives as tyre manufacturers face intensifying due-diligence expectations and forthcoming deforestation-free sourcing rules in key markets. For procurement teams, the risk-based model should help focus audits, remediation and transparency where exposure is highest. while giving customers and regulators clearer evidence of performance.
