Prometeon Tyre Group has published its 2025 Sustainability Report, setting out progress on cleaner energy, recycled materials and supplier oversight across its industrial, agricultural and OTR tyre operations. The report is relevant to UK fleets because tyre procurement is increasingly judged on whole-life cost, casing value, retreadability and environmental performance.
Prometeon said renewable and high-efficiency sources accounted for 51.5% of the total energy used across tyre production in 2025. Renewable sources, including certified green electricity and biomass, represented 31.3% of total energy use. High-efficiency systems, including combined heat and power plants, accounted for a further 20.2%.
Electricity use showed a similar trend. The company said renewable energy represented 47.5% of electricity consumption during the year. Its Milan headquarters and Cinisello Balsamo research and development centre were covered by renewable energy certificates and partly supplied by a new 116 kWp photovoltaic plant.
Prometeon also reported that its Gravataí plant in Brazil remained carbon neutral for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, supported by renewable energy certificates and a biomass boiler used for process steam.
The figures sit behind Prometeon’s stated aim to reach climate neutrality by 2040. The company says its pathway is aligned with the 1.5°C target framework used by the Science Based Targets initiative, whose Corporate Net-Zero Standard gives companies guidance for science-based net-zero target setting.
The report also points to higher use of recycled materials in production. Prometeon said recycled materials reached around 7% in 2025, supported by increased use of recycled steel, silica derived from rice husk ash and carbon black produced from pyrolysis oil obtained from end-of-life tyres.
Since 1 January 2025, every Coach C02 tyre in size 295/80R22.5 produced at Prometeon’s Turkish plant has contained 23% ISCC+ certified materials by weight, calculated using the mass balance approach.
That development builds on product messaging already seen in Prometeon’s commercial range. Tyre News previously reported that the C02 Coach Multiaxle shown at Transport Logistic Munich was presented as Prometeon’s first Class A rolling resistance tyre, with fuel and CO₂ savings claims based on VECTO simulation.
For fleets, the practical question is not only whether a tyre contains more sustainable materials. It is whether the tyre also delivers mileage, durability and casing value over its full operating life.
Steve Tift, Managing Director UK & Ireland at Prometeon Tyre Group, said sustainability was becoming more important for UK fleets but had to sit alongside operational performance.
He said operators need tyres that deliver “mileage, durability and retreadability”, helping them reduce waste, control costs and support their own environmental goals.
That point is important for tyre dealers and fleet service providers. Sustainability claims have stronger trade value when they connect with tyre life, retread potential, maintenance planning and fuel performance.
Prometeon has already been positioning its Serie 02 commercial tyre range around these themes in the UK. Tyre News recently reported that the rebranded Serie 02 truck range includes RFID-ready casings, intended to support tyre tracking and fleet maintenance planning.
Prometeon said it carried out 21 audits at raw material suppliers in 2025, covering 18% of annual raw material expenditure. The audits assessed areas including child labour, forced labour, health and safety, working hours and freedom of association.
The company said cumulative audit coverage from 2021 to 2025 reached 99% of raw material expenditure. This matters because larger fleets and transport buyers are placing more scrutiny on environmental, social and governance standards across their supplier base.
Nicolas Marchi, Chief of Internal Audit, Compliance, Sustainability & Institutional Relations Officer at Prometeon, said the report showed the company’s ability to turn ESG objectives into “tangible and measurable results”. He cited the rise in renewable and high-efficiency energy, increased recycled material use and Prometeon’s CDP assessment results as evidence of progress.
Prometeon said it achieved a B score in CDP’s Climate Change questionnaire and B- in Water Security, placing the group at Management level. The report was prepared using Global Reporting Initiative standards.
For the tyre trade, the report is most relevant where sustainability data intersects with procurement, lifecycle value and regulatory pressure. Commercial tyre buyers are asking more questions about carbon, casing management, recovered materials and supplier responsibility.
The tyre sector is also under pressure to demonstrate credible circular economy progress. Tyre News has separately reported industry concern around weak UK used tyre export compliance and its impact on domestic recycling capacity.
Prometeon’s latest report does not remove the need for careful scrutiny of manufacturer claims. However, it gives fleets, dealers and service partners more data points to assess how commercial tyre production is changing.
